If you've tasted non-alcoholic wine before, it's possible you were disappointed. That's because until recently, most alcohol-free wines were very sugary and not made with much care. Thankfully, that's changing and there are now many non-alcoholic winemakers who are making high-quality products. Here are some of our favorites.
Best Non-Alcoholic Champagne: Noughty
Noughty Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Chardonnay is our favorite substitute for Champagne. It's made from Chardonnay grapes, which are also used to make much of the finest alcoholic Champagne.
It tastes like apples, pears and lemony citrus with some of the same "toasty" vanilla and cinnamon notes you get in great Champagne. Great on its own and also to make non-alcoholic sparkling cocktails.
Best Non-Alcoholic Red Wine: Jukes #6
Red wine alternatives are perhaps the hardest to make. Our favorite is Jukes #6, a fruit shrub made from berries and plums with organic apple cider vinegar. The recipe is based on founder and wine writer Matthew Jukes' favorite alcoholic red wines from the Burgundy and Rhone regions of France. The result is reminiscent of Pinot Noir, Beaujolais (Gamay) and Syrah.
Best Non-Alcoholic Rosé Wine: Sovi Sparkling Rose
The founders of Sovi, Alex and Julia Littauer, take a lot of care in making their alcohol-free wines and it shows. They work closely with wine growers in Northern California and harvest the grapes with non-alcoholic wine in mind from the start. Their wine gives
Provencal rosé a run for its money. Plus it comes in handy single-serve cans.
Best Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay: Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Blanc de Blancs
The newest offering from one of our favorite brands, Leitz Blanc de Blancs is perfect for those who enjoy unoaked Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. It has plenty of ripe apple and citrus flavors, combined with a refreshing, mouthwatering acidity.
