non-alcoholic mint julep cocktail / mocktail recipe

Mint Julep

Who says you can't have your julep and eat it too? Now you can celebrate Derby Day (or any day) without the 5pm hangover courtesy of Spiritless Kentucky 74 alcohol-free bourbon.

All you need is Kentucky 74, a little sugar and plenty of fresh mint.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 oz (1/4 cup) Spiritless Kentucky 74
  • 1/2 oz (1 tbs) Simple Syrup*
  • 4-6 mint leaves
  • Garnish: 2-3 mint sprigs
INSTRUCTIONS:

Combine all ingredients in a Julep cup or rocks glass and muddle gently. Fill glass halfway with crushed ice and stir. Fill the rest of the glass with more crushed ice and gently mound it on top. Add a sustainable straw and garnish with a few fresh mint sprigs (slap them gently between your palms first to release all the aromatic oils).

VARIATIONS:

Go "halfsies" with 1 oz (2 tbs) each Spiritless and alcoholic bourbon.

*Simple Syrup

Combine equal parts white sugar and warm water and stir or shake to dissolve. Allow to cool before use and store in the refrigerator.
